Lake Dasiou

Nestled in Mount Ziria (also known as Kyllini, as it might be referred to), you can discover a stunning mountain lake that remains filled with water for 8 to 9 months each year. This, of course, is Lake Dasiou, covering an area of approximately 60,000 square meters and situated at an altitude of 1,480 meters.

The name of the lake traces its origins to the Dasios family, often called the "Dasei family" by the locals, who resided in Trikala of Corinthias. History has it that the locals were connected to the Notaras family, another influential family in the political life of the era, and together, they played a part in the Greek revolution by joining the “Society of Friends” or “Filiki Eteria.”

Today, the lake is a captivating destination for visitors all year round. Nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers visit it annually, primarily during the weekends, to relish the picturesque natural landscape and the range of sporting activities it offers.

How can one reach the lake?

Access to Lake Dasiou is exceptionally easy, with two routes leading to the location from paved roads. Here are the two ways to reach the location:

  1. Follow the road that leads to the ski center. Instead of turning towards the ski center, continue straight. After 300 meters, turn right, and after 500 meters, turn right again, reaching your destination.
  2. After reaching Mesea Trikala (the middle district of Trikala), 200 meters past the "Heliovassilema" hotel, turn left. Then, after another 200 meters, turn right again, until you’ll reach an antenna. Following this road, you will arrive at Lake Dasiou.

What makes the lake special?

It is a pristine lake, one of the few natural lakes found at such a high altitude. It boasts a unique fauna, with characteristic examples such as the green tree frog, the striped newt, and the striped water turtle. Additionally, the flora of the Kyllini/Ziria mountain range is exceptionally diverse, with at least 900 plant species in the area.

It is a true natural gem for the Xylokastro - Evrostini region and hosts visitors of all ages every year who enjoy the landscape and the generous gifts that nature provides.

What else is there in the area?

Besides the Ziria Ski Center, in the surrounding vicinity, you will find enchanting routes and villages such as Trikala, Manna, Karya, and Zacholi.
