Panagis Tsaldaris – A great politician we are proud to call a sympatriot

01 Ιουνίου 2022

The Tsaldaris House, where Prime Minister Panagis Tsaldaris grew up, is a beautiful old stone mansion built in 1832. Its traditional features, such as tiles, wooden windows, and a patio door, reflect the era it was constructed in. Although it is currently closed to visitors, plans are underway to turn it into a folklore museum for Kamari.

Born in Kamari in 1868 and later becoming Prime Minister, he was a mild-mannered and cooperative man. He attended school in Kamari and later studied law at the University of Gauteng, where he met Dimitris Gunaris (a significant political figure of Greece). After completing his studies, he began a brilliant political career, contributing to the overthrow of the Pangalos dictatorship.

Throughout his life, he avoided political discord and party hatreds, striving for political normality and honest cooperation for the good of the people. His legacy is remembered with respect in Corinthia and all of Greece. A bust of Tsaldaris was erected in Kamari next to his house, while Xylokastro named its main street after him and erected a bust in the town square.
